Paradise Promised

Paradise Promised

written by Kerry E.B. Black

Rain-produced prisms

reflecting sun,

joyful rainbow arcs

captured on leaves

trembling in the wake

of a spring downpour;

Paradise Promised,

and nothing more.

Conversation

Conversation

written by Kerry E.B. Black

A conversation like any other

exchanging pleasantries.

No earth-shattering news between them.

Just friends shooting the breeze.

Click of conclusion. The day continued.

Until a fateful cry

Crushed the foundation of their friendship.

She’s gone. She left. She died.

Weary Way

Weary Way

written by Kerry E.B. Black

Walking a weary mile

without too much to say,

at least nothing worth saying;

taking a garden lane

to smell fragrant flowers

though the time premium ticks;

recognized in every face

shared agonies and delights

from walking the weary way.

R.I.P.

R.I.P.

Written by Kerry E.B. Black

A life lived badly,

Promise lost,

Potential unrealized.

My Heart grows Heavy

Grieving one

Who lived a life of Hell.

I pray his soul will

Travel on

To forgiven comfort.

April Showers

Written by Kerry E.B. Black

Pitter pattering fairy footfalls

Disrupting everything

Cascading callers causing cramping

Of arthritis joints

Glittering gutters overflowing

With diamonds and tears

Tapping trouble flooding friendly

The sum of desert fears.

Kiss Me

Kiss Me

Written by Kerry E.B. Black

Kiss me, my love, because you

desire me as I desire you.

Make me believe in my beauty,

perceiving passion in your eyes,

and I’ll reveal my ardor

through reaction and action,

Using touch and taste and smell

of smooth skin and sweet sweat,

Whispers of promise moaned in ecstasy,

a passion burst into a garden of bloom

all because you kiss me, my love.

Ms. May

Ms. May

written by Kerry E.B. Black

She calls to me during my dreams,

the one who got away,

with bright brown eyes and pouting mouth,

my Bonnie lass, Ms. May.

She lingers at the Corner Store

where once I begged her stay.

She laughed and went on with her friends,

my Bonnie lass, Ms. May.

Feeling repentant to church I’d go

and on my knees I’d pray.

‘Twas only her I saw and felt,

my Bonnie lass, Ms. May.

The gentle blossom into the wind

did like a kitten stray,

and put her hands into his there,

my Bonnie lass, Ms. May.

I warned of errored judgement then

revealed my true dismay.

She tossed her hair and left my heart,

my Bonnie lass, Ms. May.

My ardor turned a corner then,

a villain I’d portray.

A garland wound tight round her neck,

my Bonnie lass, Ms. May.

I hear her cries, though strangled now,

She no more my prey,

Dulled to a wispy memory,

my Bonnie lass, Ms. May.

Marriage

Marriage

written by Kerry E.B. Black

More than picket fences

and child-filled mini vans,

married life invigorates,

inspires and ignites.

Days spent pouring cups of love

as each other’s beverage.

Necessary absence brings

a form of melancholy.

Working through challenges

with passion and honesty,

overcoming obstacles

hand-in-hand together,

working with binding lives.

Hearts a part melding minds.
